Wool Peddler ... it's done

Well it's being blocked anyways. I finished it last night and have it blocking now.

I am really happy how this turned out. I used a lighter weight yarn (Frog Tree Yarns sport weight alpaca) than the directions called for and stayed with the size US8 needles (Denise Interchangeable) which made it lighter weight and airy. Here's some pictures of it being blocked with some closeups of the lace pattern. Now I have it for the Sea Sock cruise to Canada. Yeah!!!

Later today I'll let you know what just came in yesterday... or you can check it out at The Knitting Hutch New Arrivals.

Wool Peddler update... and New Arrivals

I made good progress on the Wool Peddler's Shawl last night (most of repeat 5), and should be well into repeat 6 (the last repeat) if not done. I really want to have this ready to block on Saturday (yes, this Saturday). ;-) Isn't easy though with these tempting me ....

Yesterday I received my latest shipment from Claudia Hand Painted Yarns and like all of her yarns I love them. On the left is Sport Weight in the Walk in the Woods colorway.

Then there's the Small Loop Boucle (with 78% mohair) in the John B colorway. The Knitting Hutch now has Sport Weight and Boucle in Walk in the Woods, Woodland Moss and John B. along with offering Forest Canopy Shawl in the Sport Weight. I desperately wanted to cast on for the Forest Canopy Shawl in the Walk in the Woods but ... discipline ;-)

and next up is ...

Since I'm catching you up on my current works in progress I thought I'd pace myself by posting one a day and so now I present ....

Wool Peddler's Shawl from Folk Shawls
using Frog Tree Alpaca Sport Weight in Dark Gray using my Denise Interchangeables with the size US8 needle tips.

I started this shawl around noon on Easter Sunday and have worked on it steadily every day since. Last night I completed the 4th of 6 lace repeats and hope to be done Friday or Saturday so I can wash and block. This is my first alpaca and I am in love. Very, very soft with a great hand. I picked this one for the Wool Peddler's Shawl because I really liked the rustic texture, hand spun look this yarn gives and think it would be like what they would have sold and used for their shawls.
This is my immediate project to complete since I want to take it with me to wear on the Sea Socks Cruise to Vancouver and Victoria at the end of the month. So I must get back to it and hope to complete repeat 5 tonight.
Tomorrow... Another project introduction and..... New Arrivals/Coming Soon.

So many projects ... so little time

Well here's my first Project Status post (with out pictures).
I wanted to share with you what I'm working on right now and promise to post pictures soon.

Since there are so many right now I thought I would share one a day then I'll do a regular update as progress/completion is made.

Here we go.... currently on the needles (3 shawls, 1 sweater, 1 purse and 1 pair of socks)
First up

  • Kimono Shawl from Folk Shawls using Hand Maiden Sea Silk in the Ebony colorway and size US6 circular needles (metal from the early 80's). I love this yarn and pattern. The hand, drape and colors are just amazing. The pattern is a really easy lace suitable for beginning lace knitters. I'm currently about 1/3 of the way on this one. The colors in this one are hard to describe. It's a soft black with brown highlights that have a real richness to it. This is not just a model for my shop and website but one I'm looking forward to wearing. I'm hoping to be finished with this one by the end of May. The reason it's taking so long is other projects keep popping up ...

Introduction and Welcome to Jackie's blog for The Knitting Hutch

Welcome to Jackie's (aka The Knitting Hutch) blog. First let me do a quick introduction.

I learned to knit in 1972 and have been knitting off and on since. In the last couple years I have knit with a vengance and discovered that this of all needle crafts is my true passion. With this discovery I decided last March (after Stitches West... coincidence?) to open a knitting shop in my home and online - The Knitting Hutch.

Here is where you'll find out about the New Arrivals and what's Coming Soon, Shop Events as well as what I'm Currently Working on. This won't replace the existing New Arrivals page on the website but will be more of my personal notes on the new arrivals and items coming in soon.
... and the project status won't be replacing my completed projects page either but will document the life of each project.

In order to keep me 'on task' here I'll be trying to do this on some sort of schedule.

  • Mondays - Jackie's Project(s) status and Coming Soon
  • Wednesdays - Shop Events and Sales
  • Saturdays - New Arrivals

I'll also post misc. ramblings as thoughts and time permits.
